'If my people will hear my voice.......'

"When I shut up the heavens so that there is no rain, or command locusts to devour the land or send a plague among my people, 14 if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land", 2nd Chronicles7:13-14........This is a verse from the Bible and I feel is one of the few scriptures that should be speaking to all Batswana in all four corners of the world. Our country like many other countries is plagued by the killer disease AIDS...only it is worse for my motherland because not only does it have a small population, but also people are running scared of the disease......I mean even today after thousands and thousands of people have died as a result of this disease you still get most people if not all saying things like......."Oh my nephew was a very sick man....the doctors said it was TB....so that’s why they’ve passed on'...when asked to speak at funerals of individuals who clearly died of AIDS...So not only is the disease devouring our land but the people are denying its existence, still. And then of course there are many who think they are above contracting it ...like so many youths that are studying at universities all over ...I mean for instance the behaviour of Botswana students studying in other countries is appalling.
Anyway I guess my main message is ...If people who claim to be Christian do not know what to do.... then there is no hope for Botswana...I mean the country is supposedly 50% Christian yet so many young people engage in pre-marital sex (which is the main contractual method). So many think it’s optional to have a child outside marriage and so forth…
So the bottom line is, it doesn’t matter how many people work day and night to fight the disease because ultimately it is the individual transformation of each and every person that will lead to a positive change in the overall society.
So people of Botswana hear what the Lord says...then and only then will Botswana be healed…

It's always interesting how people find ways around the rules of their religion that are inconvenient.

Personally, I'm agnostic, so I don't necessarily believe that one needs to be Chrisitan in order to be aware of AIDS.

From what I know, a lot of people in Africa (and other parts of the world, too) are still afraid of the stigma attached to AIDS- people haven't been educated on it, and they're unnecessarily afraid of what they don't understand, so if someone's relative has AIDS, they lie (although technically one doesn't die of AIDS, but rather of the diseases the flourish in a body with a weakend immune system) and say that they didn't to avoid stigmatizing their deceased or themselves.

This in turn fuels the perception that the disease doesn't exist or is exaggerated, and so people take stupid risks.
